Solar Panel Reinstallation After Your New Roof Is On
A new roof does not finish the job by itself. Until the array is back on it, reconnected, and producing, the system is just sitting in a garage or staged on the ground doing nothing for your utility bill. That gap is invisible from the curb and very visible on the bill.

Remounting on the New Roof
Racking goes back down on the new roof deck in the same layout the array had before, using the labeling from removal to put each panel back in its original row and position. Every mounting point is checked against the new roof surface before anything is bolted down, since a new roof does not always sit exactly like the old one did. Rows and columns follow the original layout where one exists, and get re-measured against the new deck where it does not.
Flashing and Penetrations
Remount uses new mounting feet and new flashing at every point on the new roof, not old hardware reused on a surface it was never sized for. Each foot is set and flashed before the racking goes back on, so the array is not the reason the new roof leaks. This is the step that gets skipped when someone tries to save time by reusing what came off the old roof, and it is the step that matters most. Flashing is matched to the new roofing material itself, not to whatever was on the roof before, since the two are rarely the same product.
Torque and Wire Management
Racking bolts get torqued to spec, not just snugged down by hand. Wiring is run and secured the way it was designed to be run, with connectors seated fully and cable routed so it is not rubbing against racking, roofing, or itself. Loose hardware and loose wire are where problems start months later, not on remount day. Both get checked again once the array is fully back down, not just as each panel goes on. Strain relief gets checked at every junction, not just at the panel, because a wire that is fine today and resting against a rail can wear through in a year.
Reconnection and Production Check
Once the array is remounted, the system is reconnected on the DC side and the inverter is powered back up. Before the job is called done, we confirm the system is actually producing: checking output at the inverter, not just checking that panels are physically back on the roof. If a string is not reporting the way it should, that gets tracked down before we leave, not left for you to notice on a future utility bill. That check happens at the string level where the layout calls for it, not just as one combined reading at the inverter.
A System Off the Roof Is Not Earning
Every day the panels sit staged instead of mounted is a day they are not making electricity. If you are still paying the full utility bill without the offset your system used to provide, reinstallation is not a finishing touch on the roofing job. It is the step that gets your system earning again, and it is worth scheduling as soon as the new roof is ready for it. The roofing work can be finished and paid for while the array is still sitting in the garage. Nothing about the roof being done gets the system producing again except putting it back up, so a staged array is not a stopping point, it is a job that is half finished.
