Roofing Estimators - What to Note on a Solar Roof Walk in Phoenix

Bidding a Phoenix roof with solar on it? What roofing estimators should note on the walk so the solar removal and reinstall side is easy to price and schedule.

When a Phoenix roof you are bidding has solar on it, a few notes on the estimate walk make the solar side easy to price and schedule: a rough panel count, where the arrays sit, the roof surface under them, where the inverter is, staging room on the ground, and whether the system is producing today.

Phoenix Solar Removal is the solar subcontractor for roofing companies across Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, and Scottsdale. You keep the roof job. We take the solar side. Here is what helps us get you a number with less back-and-forth.

1. Panel count and layout

A rough count is fine. Note how many arrays there are and which slopes they sit on. A single array on one slope is a different job from three arrays spread across the roof. A photo from the ground or a satellite screenshot helps.

2. The roof surface under the array

Tile, shingle, or something else, and roughly how old. On the reset, flashing is chosen for the new roofing material, so knowing what is going down helps us plan the remount. Tile vs shingle on the solar side covers what changes.

3. Full or partial scope

Tell us whether the whole roof is being replaced or only a section under part of the array. Partial jobs follow the same sequence with fewer panels in play. Partial detach jobs explains the difference.

4. Where the equipment lives

Note where the inverter and the disconnects are. They are often on an exterior wall near the meter or in the garage. If conduit runs from the array across the roof, sketch its route. Conduit that crosses the work area matters to both crews.

5. Staging room on the ground

Panels and racking need a place to sit, out of your crew's path and away from the dumpster and tear-off debris. A side yard, the edge of the driveway, or the garage. Note what is available, and whether the HOA has rules about what can sit in view.

6. Is the system working now?

Ask the homeowner whether the system is producing and whether they check the monitoring app. If a panel is cracked or a string has been down, it should be recorded before anything comes off so it is not argued about at the end. Cracked panel before a re-roof covers that conversation.

7. Your tear-off window

Even a rough window helps. Removal happens before your crew starts tear-off, and remount happens once decking and roofing are done and the surface is ready for racking. If the date moves, we move with it.

8. Is there a claim?

If the reroof is tied to a storm claim, say so. Before-and-after photos of the array and the deck come formatted for the claim file, organized by property address and your job reference.

The line between the crews

Set it once on the first job and keep it:

  • Your crew: tear-off, decking, roofing material, and detailing the old mount penetrations into the new roof.
  • Phoenix Solar Removal: DC shutdown and lockout, panel and racking removal, labeling and staging, remount with new feet and flashing, reconnection, and the production check.

How the solar line shows up in your bid

The solar scope is priced and invoiced as its own line, so your roofing number stays separate and the homeowner can see what each part covers. More on the setup is on the for roofing companies page.

FAQ

Can you work around a tear-off that slides for weather?

Yes. We work from your project schedule. If tear-off moves, the removal date moves with it.

Who talks to the homeowner?

When you bring us in, we work through you. You keep the customer relationship and the roofing contract.

What do we get back at the end?

A reconnected system confirmed producing at the inverter, plus before-and-after photos for your file.

Do you only take full re-roofs?

No. Leak repairs and partial re-roofs under part of the array qualify too.
